My first and one only mechanical keyboard
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh
Hehehe hello, ahlan!
In this article, I want to talk about my mechanical keyboard—my first and only keeb!
I had been dreaming of owning a mechanical keyboard for three years, since 2020, and finally, in 2023, I bought my very first one.
I really took my time before buying it because I wanted to get the best one for me. I did a lot of research and even held off for a while to save up—because let’s be real, they’re not cheap!
All I wanted at first was a keyboard that’s:
- Silent (or at least quieter)
- White in color
- 75% layout
Buttttt… the more I researched, the more options I discovered—and mechanical keyboard specs are wildly complex.
At first, I was simply drawn to how good mechanical keyboards look and how easy it is to change the keycaps. I mean… the keycaps online are soooo cute and beautiful! 😭
Turns out, there are a lot more things to consider—and that’s also what makes them fun and customizable. That’s one of the main reasons people get into mechanical keyboards in the first place.
Here are some things I’ve learned on my keeb journey so far:
- Switches (so many options—do you want something silent, thocky, clicky, or something else entirely?)
- Plate types (e.g., polycarbonate, aluminum, FR4, POM… each gives a different feel/sound)
- Keyboard profile (like low or high profile)
- Keycap types
- LEDs (do you want them? South-facing or north-facing?)
- Connection types (USB-C wired, Bluetooth, wireless dongle)
- Hotswappability
- Software support (a lot of custom keyboards use VIA, a universal configuration tool)
- Layers (some keyboards have multiple foam or silicone layers for dampening)
...and that's just what I know so far—there's a whole world out there I haven’t explored yet! 😅
After scrolling through e-commerce sites, watching countless keyboard reviews, reading online feedback, and saving up… I finally decided to get the:

Right now, I’m still using the default switch and plate. I’ve only changed the keycaps so far (because I don’t have the energy to change the switches yet haha).
Maybe next time, I’ll try a different switch for a more thocky, poppy, or creamy typing experience~ 💭💕
